Efren Gonzalez was born in Ajijic in 1972. He was a participant in the famous Neill James art program for local school children. He also studied with Antonio Cardens, international painter B.R. Kline, watercolorist Luis Eduardo Gonzalez, sculptor Kent Clark and etchist Juan Navarro.

Gonzalez is adept in many media and switches from one to another, often in the same day. His imagination, adventurous nature and superior skills allow him to express himself with ease in figurative, expressionistic and abstract styles.

Recently Gonzales produced several stunning murals including the work on the central staircase of the Chapala City Hall depicting Lake Chapala area history.
